Two-time Dan Patch award winner Buck I St Pat captured Saturday’s $100,000 Perretti Farms Matchmaker for free-for-all trotting mares in a track record 1:51 performance. Sent off as the 3-5 favorite, the seven-year-old mare wore down second-place Windsong Soprano in the stretch to win her fifth of the season. Jersey As and Autumn Escapade followed in third and fourth respectively.
Starting from post six, driver Tim Tetrick moved Buck I St Pat out sixth as Autumn Escapade and David Miller grabbed the early lead from seventh. Elusive Desire, also leaving at the start for John Campbell, made it to the top after a :27 opening panel. As the field reached the half (:55), Yursa Hanover was out and moving from fourth, while Buck I St Pat was able to flush cover as Windsong Soprano left the rail.
Yursa Hanover and Daniel Dube led the field past the three quarter station in 1:23.1 as Windsong Soprano and Buck I St Pat advanced second and fourth-over. In the stretch, Windsong Soprano took a short lead before conceding to the favorite. Trained by Ron Burke, the Jailhouse Jesse mare earned her 45th career victory, coming in her 84th start. Owned by Howard Taylor, Edwin Gold, Abraham Basen and breeder R R Fuller, the time lowered her lifetime best, taken at six, by a full second. Buck I St Pat added another $50,000 in earnings to her more than $1.7 million career tally.
Buck I St Pat paid $3.20, $2.10 and $2.10 in the win. The time established a new track record for older trotting mares. The previous record was held by Maid For Tag, a 1:51.4 winner on August 15, 2009.
