Norway native Paul Buer came to the United States in the winter of 2001 and the 31 year old drove his first winner on this continent Monday night (Sept. 8) at The Red Mile.

Buer, who trains for Antoinette Nigito’s Joie De Vie Farm in Jobstown, N.J., usually turns the lines over to catch-drivers, but this time he was in the bike behind the 2-year-old filly trotter Angus Twirl, who won the opening race on the card, a $2,000 non-winners-of-one event, in 2:01.3.

The win came in Buer’s ninth career drive in the U.S., and in his third in 2003. Besides his win with Joie De Vie Farm’s $25,000 yearling purchase Angus Twirl, Buer has a second and a fifth this year, all at The Red Mile. His career slate stands at 9-1-2-1.
