The Ron Burke-trained entry of Mortal Zin and Verdad is rated the 2-1 pick in the $50,000 New Jersey Futurity for three-year-old pacers on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Freehold Raceway.
Restricted to New Jersey-sired pacers, the featured tenth race drew five geldings, two fillies and one colt. The Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey sponsors the New Jersey Futurity.
Mortal Zin, driven by Yannick Gingras, and Verdad, handled by David Miller, faced off last week in the $25,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes – Green Acres Final. Verdad, a son of Western Ideal, prevailed by a half length over Mortal Zin, who is by Rocknroll Hanover.
Mortal Zin, who has finished first or second in 10 of 16 starts this year, races in the name of Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Slaughter Racing Stable and Larry Karr.
Verdad, owned and bred by Howard Taylor and Judith Taylor, has finished in-the-money in seven of 17 starts this year.
