Kentucky breeders Fredericka "Rikki" Caldwell and her children Elizabeth and Danny will be cheering on their first Breeders Cup starter this weekend. The Caldwells bred Golden Mischief, who will compete in Saturday's $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint. She's one of the top five contenders in the race.
The Caldwells have enjoyed success in harness racing for decades, with Rikki's late mother, Frances Dodge Van Lennep, the longtime proprietor of Castleton Farm. During Mrs. Van Lennep's life Castleton won Hambletonians and other major stakes. Rikki Caldwell campaigned Breeders Crown champion Nan's Catch and retained her and bred her great daughter Moni Maker. She also bred 2010 Hambletonian Oaks winner Bar Slide. This year the farm has followed the European accomplishments of the trotter Propulsion, who they bred.
