The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame has announced the passing of 2015 Standardbred mare inductee JCs Nathalie at the age of 30.
Her owner, John Lamers, said "She had a lot of issues from her knees down. She would experience a lot of swelling, especially in her ankles, and the issues weren’t getting any better. She was also having a tough time eating. She was experiencing quite a bit of discomfort. It was a decision that I had to make. It was a tough one, but it was the best one for her, given the situation."
She was a solid pacing mare but excelled as a broodmare. She earned more than $258,000 during her five-year racing career and took a mark of 1:55.2 at Mohawk Racetrack. More than half of her earnings were won in Quebec Sires Stakes.
In 2009, John Lamers of Ingersoll, Ontario, purchased J CS Nathalie and as a result she has produced two millionaires as a broodmare, pacing horse Dreamfair Vogel, and pacing mare Dreamfair Eternal.
In total she has produced 13 horses of which 11 have started and earned more than $4.5 million in purse earnings. Average earnings per starter are over $410,000.
Dreamfair Vogel was a winner of 19 races and over $1.1 million with a mark of 1:49.3. The son of Village Jiffy’s racing career spanned from 2001through 2007 and was highlighted by a number of stakes victories including the Provincial Cup, Willowdale, Canadian Breeders and many Ontario Sires Stakes events.
Dreamfair Eternal, inducted to the CHRHF a year before her dam, was Canada’s Horse of the Year in 2010, won 56 races and over $2.5 million in her racing career. 2010 marked the second consecutive year she was voted Canada’s Older Pacing Mare of the Year following one of the best seasons ever for a Canadian-based pacing mare. She won on four different sized racetracks on both sides of the border en route to banking just shy of $1 million. Her major stakes victories included the Artiscape, the Masters Series Final, Milton Final, Forest City Pace and the Breeders Crown Championship. Dreamfair Eternal was a finalist in the Older Pacing Mare category in 2011 after another strong season which saw her win 8 of 22 races and over $693,000. Her 2011 stakes wins included the Ellamony, the Masters, the Roses Are Red, the Lady Liberty and the Golden Girls.
J CS Nathalie is sired by Flight Of Fire out of the Strike Out mare, Before The Wind.
