Celtic Merchant took the Billings Amateur Trot while Heres Matty took the featured pace to highlight the Friday night card at Scioto Downs.

Driver Steve Oldford put Celtic Merchant, a 7-year-old gelded son of Angus Hall, in front at the start and held his rivals at bay throughout the 1:59.1 mile. Even money favorite Done Dreamen was parked all the way and loomed boldly in the final turn, but couldn’t catch the winner.

Done Dreamen and driver Bud Hatfield was second while Milt Smith finished third with Celebrity Yankee.

In the evening’s pacing feature, driver Kyle Bolon moved Heres Matty to the front in the third quarter and held off favored No Sugar Added to win in 1:54.4. Robinmeblind was third. The winning margin was 2-1/2 lengths.

Heres Matty paid $22.00 to win

It was the eighth win in 21 starts for owner-trainer Raymond Brandt of Zanesville, Ohio. (Scioto Downs)
