Chloes Silver Star shines for Pierce at Dover
« Return to News
Pierce taxied Chloes Silver Star alongside race leader Mozzi Hanover and Jim Morand on the backstretch and the pair dueled to the three-quarters and around the final turn. The 5-year-old Intrepid Seelster-Silver Chloe mare appeared to be retreating as the nine-horse field entered the homestretch, but Pierce got her going again and won a three-horse photo by a head in 1:52.4.
It was a repeat performance for the Gary Evans and Foulk Stable-owned distaff and her fourth win of the year to go with two seconds and three thirds in 12 races. She has won $90,160 in 2009. Mozzi Hanover edged Eric Goodell-driven Lady Mach for second.
Pierce also returned to win the $22,000 distaff sub-feature race, piloting Yada Yada Yada A to her first win since early February in 1:53.4. The Hall of Fame driver moved the Armbro Operative-Fiddybits 9 year old out of sixth and followed first-over Alice\'s Restaurant until making a three-wide move at the three-quarters to take the lead and then cruised home a winner. Dill And Grace A, driven by Jon Roberts, led from the start and finished second. Ireneonthemove (Morgan) was the show finisher. (Dover Downs)
