Hambletonian winner Vivid Photo and runner-up Classic Photo went head to head down the Balmoral Park homestretch in the $150,000 American National Saturday night, but this time it was the hometown favorite Classic Photo who prevailed, winning by a little more than a length in 1:54. Vivid Photo was off stride at the wire, but not lapped on and remained second ahead of Worship.

Homer Hochstetler hustled Garth Vader away at the start the fastest, parking Vivid Photo and Roger Hammer through an opening quarter of :28.2. Once in the lead, Vivid Photo kept the hammer down, trotting a :27.4 second panel, reaching the half in :56.1. Meanwhile, Classic Photo and Andy Miller dropped back to last at the start, then began an overland trip after the quarter. He got to within striking distance at the 1:25 third quarter and in mid stretch the two sons of SJ's Photo were even. Classic Photo edged ahead and in the closing strides of the race Vivid Photo went on the break.

The victory was the eighth in 12 starts this year for Classic Photo, who is trained by Ervin Miller and owned by Bill Wright, Jack and Peggy Hood, Dennis and Kevin Lakomy's Mystical Marker Farm and Jorgen Jahre.
