Charles Connor Jr. suffered some bumps and bruises in a spill during qualifiers on Thursday morning at the Meadowlands. Connor, 50, of Durhamville, N.Y., was driving Yankee Slammer in the 11th race when his horse grabbed a boot and went down.

\"The horse grabbed a bell boot and fell down while on a break,\" said Connor\'s son, Brian. \"The horse is okay, too.\"

The senior Connor was taken to Hackensack [New Jersey] University Medical Center with abrasions, contusions and pain on his side. He was released Thursday afternoon.

Brian Connor, 24, will fill in for his father, driving two horses on Friday at Pocono Downs. \"The old models don\'t bounce up like the new ones do,\" Brian Connor mused. (Meadowlands press release)
