Corey Callahan wins four at Dover

Corey Callahan drove the winner of both feature races on rainy Sunday, Dec. 23 at Dover Downs, Hoorayforthegray won the $17.000 pace and It’s A Breeze, the $14,000 filly pace, both races for 3,4&5-year-olds. Callahan completed the night with four winning drives.

In a driving finish Hoorayforthegray steamed between horses to reach the finish line in 1:55.1 for his sixth win of the year raising his seasonal earnings to $44,770. The three-year-old grey Village Jolt-Bound For Glory gelding trained by Dylan Davis and owned by Housewives Of Delaware, a group of 20 women who own equal shares of the racehorse. Highbeam Rusty N (Eddie Davis Jr.) was runner-up with M A Roy (Ron Pierce) taking third place. Big Guy (Eric Goodell) led until a swarm of rivals came at him entering the stretch. This ended his two race win streak.

It’s a Breeze was overlooked at 9-1 came on in the stretch to score a 1:55.3 triumph in the $14,000 distaff event. Nick Callahan, Corey’s dad, owns and trains the winner a four-year-old by Allamerican Native-Radiant Breeze. It was her third win of 2010 bringing her earnings to $54,758 this year.

Art Brewer conditioned consecutive winners, Hurrikane Leonardo (Ron Pierce, 1:57), in a $7,100 3,4&5-Year-Old pace, Out Of Pocket (Mike Cole), a Delaware $10,000 Claiming Allowance, and Artie Grei (Corey Callahan, 1:58.4) in a Delaware 3,4&5-Year-Old pace.

In addition to Callahan’s four wins, Ron Pierce and Tony Morgan had driving doubles. Trainer Josh Green also had two winners. (Dover Downs)
