Crown bound Commander Crowe scores

The Swedish owned and bred Commander Crowe, who connections have accepted an invitation to the Breeders Crown at Woodbine next month, won the Grand prix Federation Regionale du Nord at the French countryside track La Capelle Wednesday afternoon.
The 7-year-old gelding by Juliano Star-Somack (by Mack Lobell) won enjoyed a quite calm trip from last in the field and ended with a narrow victory when driver Christophe Martens let him use his speed. The time for the huge chestnut, trained by Fabrice Souloy, was a mile rate of 1:58.4 over 2,700 meters. He added 50,000 euros (over $70,000) to his bank account.
Reve de Beylev (Fortuna Fant) was second for Eric Raffin and Perlando (Giant Cat) third with Jos Verbeeck in the bike.
Raffin will also be competing in the Breeders Crown, but with "the monster," Rapide Lebel (Ginger Somolli). Rapide Lebel was the runner-up in the Elitlopp and with his victory in the Åby Greater Prize, he captured the final event of the 2011 European Grand Circuit.--By Lars G. Palm
