Although 12 sophomore filly pacers will line up behind the gate in two Breeders Crown eliminations Saturday night, the Mistletoe Shalee winner and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champion Dancinwiththestarz is not among the names to be found. Following her recent runner-up finish in the Jugette, the filly came up sick and will remain on the sidelines.
"The Breeders Crown is the race I most wanted to go to this year," said Skip Spring, who along with wife Wendy and partner Shannon Brott, own Dancinwiththestarz. "We're very disappointed.”
Dancinwiththestarz has won seven of 14 races, and finished second in six. Her only third-place finish came when she recovered from an interference break and grabbed the show spot in her Jugette elimination. She was then second to Western Silk in the final. Her career earnings stand at $918,605.
"To have raced so well and go two heats in that very hot weather and then come home, develop a high fever and a lung infection and have to miss the Breeders Crown, we feel like you'd think we feel," added Spring of the Mark Harder-trained daughter of Four Starzzz Shark. "There was only one more race on her calendar and it's a month away, so we're turning her out for the rest of the year. We hope to be back with her next year."
