Danish Durango made the lead just after the quarter, and despite bumping up in class, held sway to the wire by half a length to take the $17,500 featured conditioned trot at the Meadowlands Friday night.
The 4-year-old son of Andover Hall, a winner last week at the non-winners of $10,000 level, trotted clear of his foes by 2½ lengths at the head of the stretch in this non-winners of $17,000 event before bracing for the late challenge of the fast-closing Jewels In Hock, who broke in deep stretch. After a judges' inquiry, Jewels In Hock was placed fourth in the official order of finish. Barn Doll was placed second and 8-5 favorite B Yoyo third.
The winner, trained by Kevin McDermott for owners Little E LLC, completed the mile in 1:52.1, returned $25.20 to win as the fourth choice in the wagering and upped his seasonal stats to five wins in 16 starts.
Danish Durango (race six) was one of three winners on the program for driver David Miller, who also scored with Exotic Beach ($12.00) in the fifth and Card Shock ($10.00) in the 10th.
ADAMS TOP HANDICAPPER: Kurt Adams of Hanover, PA won the $2,500 first prize in the 30-and-under handicapping contest sponsored by Jeff and Paula Gural's Allerage Farms.
The millennial's final bankroll of $135.60 topped the field of 41. Christopher Hofheinz of Hoboken finished second with $131.00 and pocketed $1,500.
Remarkably, both players benefited from selecting race nine winner That Woman Hanover, who paid $46.20.
