As for the application of the new Thoroughbred track, White stated, \"I am very excited to give an opportunity to bring Thoroughbreds back to Detroit. Mr. Campbell has been an asset to Michigan’s thoroughbred industry for years and today is no different.\"

Although the track application has not yet been approved, the Office of Racing Commissioner will work expeditiously with (track owner) Mr. (Jerry) Campbell and the necessary agencies to proceed with the application process.

Live racing at the new Thoroughbred track has been approved for a total of 63 days with the first race to be held on Friday, July 18. The live season will run until Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until Nov. 2.

The sole race date application for Great Lakes Downs in Muskegon was withdrawn during the process due to business complications. After 10 years as a Thoroughbred track, Great Lakes Downs will hold its last live race on Nov. 6. (with files from Michigan Office of Racing Commissioner)
