Sophomore colt trotters will be in the spotlight Saturday afternoon (May 1) at Freehold Raceway as 18 will line up behind the gate in a pair of $29,660 Dexter Cup eliminations. The top four finishers in each will return for the $190,000 (est.) final on May 8.

American Mike has drawn the rail in the first of two elims. Owned by Robert Key, the son of American Winner earned $282,461 last year at two, trotting to his career best of 1:57.3 in a Bluegrass division at The Red Mile. Charlie Norris trains and a driver was not named at declaration.

World record-holder Uncle Vernon heads up the second Dexter Cup elim. The son of Lindy Lane posted a world record 1:58 clocking over the half-mile oval at Delaware, Ohio, last September in a Standardbred division. He later went on to win the $100,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship final, concluding his year with $132,873 in earnings for owners Matthew Bailey and Karen Baggitt.
