With the $200,000 (est.) Dayton Pacing Derby just two weeks away, Dorsoduro Hanover—fresh off an upset win in the Canadian Pacing Derby—dropped into Hollywood Dayton Saturday for a prep race and left with an impressive 1:50 triumph.
The 5-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere left the gate with alacrity, hitting the quarter mile marker in :26.3 before turning Hurricane Emporer (Mark MacDonald) loose for a pocket ride for the next half mile.
With Turbo Hill (Brett Miller) ranging up to challenge the leader down the backstretch, driver Chris Page elected to sit in with Dorsoduro Hanover before swinging three wide at the head of the stretch. From that point the winner of close to $1.9 million accelerated to a three-quarter-length triumph over Turbo Hill, with Shagnwiththedragon (Trevor Smith) a creditable third.
Ron Burke trains Dorsoduro Hanover for Burke Racing, J & T Silva-Purnel & Libby, Weaver Bruscemi and the Wingfield Five.
Through the first week of the 2020 meet at Hollywood Dayton Raceway, Brett Miller has raced out to a commanding lead in the Dash Derby. Jeremy Smith is a solid second, while Trevor Smith has opened the meet on fire, including a Grand Slam on Friday night, to be third. (Hollywood Dayton)
