World champion 3-year-old pacer Downbytheseaside scored his second consecutive impressive qualifying victory on Wednesday afternoon at Miami Valley Raceway, cruising home a 10 3/4-length winner in 1:51.2. Downbythseaside was a 1:53.1 winner last Wednesday in a Miami Valley qualifier in his 2017 debut, cruising home 7 3/4 lengths to the good.

With Chris Page again driving for trainer Brian Brown, Downbythseaside got away fourth in his second qualifying test, sitting more than six lengths behind when the timer flashed ":27.2". Downbythseaside was still four lengths back in fourth at the :57.1 half, but then Page pulled his charge and rushed to the lead. Pacing an individual third quarter in :25.4, Downbytheseaside opened up two lengths on the field at the 1:23.4 three-quarters.

Extending his margin down the stretch, Downbytheseaside closed out his mile with a final quarter of :27.3.

Owned by Country Club Acres, Joe Sbrocco, Richard Lombardo and Diamond Creek Racing, Downbytheseaside last year set a world record of 1:49 over the one-mile track at The Red Mile and a world record of 1:50 over the half-mile oval at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds.

Downbytheseaside is expected to now make his pari-mutuel debut in a Pennsylvania Sires Stakes on May 6 at The Meadows.
