The Asbury Park Press is reporting on its website that eight prospective management companies each submitted $25,000 deposit checks on Thursday at a bid conference held by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
One of the bidders was John Brunetti, a New Jersey resident and real estate developer, who owns Hialeah Race Course in Florida and was a shareholder in the old Monmouth Park before it was purchased by the state in 1986.
Other bidders include Resorts Atlantic City casino owner Morris Bailey, the Angelo Gordon Co. investment group, a New Jersey horsemen's group, British gaming giant Betfair, Frank Stronach's Ocala Meadows, Oceanport resident Bernard Dowd and Greenwood Racing, which is half-owner of Freehold Raceway and also owns Atlantic City Racecourse and the Parx Racing (formerly Philadelphia Park).
Bidders who attended the conference, but didn’t submit deposit checks have until the March 31 bid deadline.
Others who attended the conference but didn't submit the $25,000 can still do so before the bid deadline of March 31.
