With plunging temperatures headed below freezing, four $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund events for 2-year-old trotters went to post at Dover Downs. Three early non-wagering races were followed by the second division of fillies leading off the wagering card.
The first colt division was controlled by Rocky Bomber and Jack Parker Jr. to the half-mile station before Zulu (CR Commando-CR Penny Lane) swept by up the backside and prevailed in a new lifetime mark of 2:02.1 for breeder, trainer and driver Rod Allen of Ocala, Fla. Riddle Me This finished third.
In division two, Chauffeur (Dusty Winner-Koala Kosmos) controlled the terms from start to finish in 2:02.4. The Harrington final winner has now earned over $97,000 in eight starts. Chauffeur was driven by Art Stafford Jr. for owner-breeder Jane Dunavant of Kenbridge, Va., and trainer Carlo Poliseno. His stablemate Air Time got up for second, and brief challenger Touch Of White hung on for third.
The filly divisions were led off by Playoff Season (CR Commando-Postseason) breaking her maiden in 2:04 for driver Vic Kirby and trainer Syl King Jr. She is owned by Steve Mullen of New Holland, Pa., and was bred by Winbak Farm. Katies Blu Diamond was second and Wolfcat was third.
The second filly division was won by 21-1 shot Emmy’s Mayflower (Anders Bluestone-Mocha) in a lifetime record of 2:00.2 over the previously undefeated Orabelle. Emmy’s Mayflower is owned, trained and was bred by Eric Foster of Ridgely, Md., and driven by his nephew, Russell Foster. Alert finished third. (Del. Standardbred Breeders)
