The third round of Indiana Sires Stakes action for sophomore pacers headlined racing at Indiana Downs Saturday, August 23. Favorite EJs Copperstone won the $15,120 division for fillies while sons of I Scoot Hanover swept the two $12,000 pacing colt splits.
Coming off her first loss of the season, ISS champion EJs Copperstone rebounded nicely Saturday night, wiring the field for trainer Steve Gray in a season’s best 1:53.1. Guided by Mark O’Mara, the Lease On Life three year old held off a late-charging Viking Contessa and Trent Stohler by a neck. Alexabeth and Ricky Macomber were third.
Owned by breeders L J Stone and Philip Hawk, EJs Copperstone has won seven of eight starts this year, banking nearly $90,000. She won the $100,000 ISS final earlier this season at Hoosier Park.
O’Mara was in the bike to guide favorite Robin I Scoot to an easy victory in the $12,000 second division of ISS action for sophomore pacing colts. Dan Perdue’s charge raced off the pace early before gaining the lead at the top of the stretch and drawing clear by two and one-half lengths in 1:52. Dontlookatthesky and Macomber finished second and Boiler Bones (Joe Essig Jr.) rounded out the trifecta.
An eight-time winner this season, the I Scoot Hanover gelding has earned in excess of $113,000 for owners Perdue and Shady Lane Meadows. The time equaled his seasonal best.
The first division for pacing colts went to Eash Racing Stable’s I Scoot For Cash. The gelding dashed home to a one and one-quarter length advantage over Dontgetbyme and Trace Tetrick in 1:52.2. Favored Rocknroll Band finished third for Dan Shetler.
