Mattios was moved to the lead down the Meadowlands' backstretch and the daughter of Matt's Scooter went on to post a 1:54.3 victory in Wednesday night's $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes for 2-year-old pacing fillies.

George Brennan was in the sulky behind the James Tolson trainee as she held off a challenge by heavily-favored Mythical to win by three lengths. Catch An Angel was another 2 ¾ lengths back in third.

Dee Tighe purchased Mattios as a yearling for $19,000 and the Sire Stakes win pushed her earnings to $118,997. Her biggest victory to date before Wednesday came in a $46,705 Debutante division at the Meadowlands last month.

"I told George that if he got her to the top by the half, she'd take care of the rest," said Tolson. "I knew she was the better horse coming into this race."

Three $29,500 NJSS divisions for freshman trotting colts were also contested on the Wednesday night card. Jeff Gregory drove Johnny Muscles to a 1:59.3 win for trainer Jan Johnson while Jimmy Takter trainees Global Slide and Smart Again emerged victorious in the other two. Takter was in the bike behind Global Slide for his 1:59 victory and David Miller drove Smart Again to his 1:59.1 score.
