Former NY horseman Andrew Nazarian dies

Horseman Andrew Nazarian, 87, died Wednesday (Oct. 16) at the Mercy Life Care Center in Guilderland, NY.
Born in Watervliet on January 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Agajan and Virkina Tabakian Nazarian. Mr. Nazarian was a graduate of Watervliet High School and served with the US Marines. He operated several service stations early in his career. For over 30 years, he was a horse trainer, a job that he loved, at Saratoga Raceway, where he operated Nazarian's Stable before retiring in 1975 due to a back injury. In 1972, he was named Trainer of the Year. He was a member of the Zaloga VFW Post in Albany and was a member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet.
He is survived by sons Andrew (Dianna) Nazarian Jr. of Latham, NY, and John (Patricia) Nazarian of Stillwater, NY, grandfather of Andrew, Armen and Amy Nazarian, Matthew and James Nazarian; great-grandfather of Kelsey and Alexis Nazarian; brother of John (Sonya) Nazarian of Stillwater, Dorothy (late Charlie) Giunta of Latham, Marian (Alex) Arghanian and Lucy (late George) Krikorian, both of Watervliet, and Gregory (Marjorie) Nazarian of Loudonville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Nettie.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:30 am at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Rev. Stepanos Doudoukjian officiating. Interment will follow in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 pm followed by the wake service at 6 pm.
