Fox Stake champion Lonestar Legend raced a disappointing eighth in the $1 million Metro at Mohawk Raceway on Sept. 1. According to trainer Don Swick, there is a good reason why the Western Hanover colt didn’t race up to par; he flipped his palate.

“We thought he might have had a problem at Indianapolis,” Swick stated. “He probably would have been better off in the (Metro) consolation. That one in there (winner Somebeachsomewhere) is just a monster.”

Swick, who conditions the colt for owners Royal Wire Products, Inc. of North Royalton, Ohio and United Process Control Company of Somerville, N.J., said Lonestar Legend has already undergone surgery and will be sidelined for two weeks. Once back in action, the freshman has only a few starts remaining this season.

“He’s got three or four races left,” explained Swick. “He has the Bluegrass and International Stallion at Lexington as well as the Governor’s Cup.”
