Freehold to pay accident equipment claims

Chris McErlean, vice president of racing for Penn National Gaming, parent company of Freehold Raceway, has sent a letter to Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association president Tom Luchento that noted claims already submitted for damage suffered in a race accident Jan. 10 have been approved.
"I have been informed by our legal counsel involved with our insurance company that any claim submitted for payment for damages of equipment involved in the Jan. 10 accident at Freehold has been approved and payments are being made,” wrote McErlean. "There may be further claims out there but they have not been submitted and there have been claims on other items apart from racing equipment that are being handled separately.”
The accident sent several drivers to the hospital, including Cat Manzi and Debbie Rucker, both of whom suffered injuries that have precluded them from yet returning to racing.
