Freshman fillies debut in Indiana

Indiana Downs hosted the first round of sires stakes competition for two year old filly pacers Monday, July 16, attracting 25 entrants. EJ’s Copperstone paced the fastest of the three $12,000 divisions offered, winning in 1:56.2. The Lease On Life filly was driven to victory by Don Irvine Jr.
Owned by breeders L.J. Stone and Phillip Hawk, EJ’s Copperstone is out of Mark Johnathan mare E J’s Delite, herself an Indiana Sires Stakes champion at two in 2000. Steve Gray trains the filly.
LBS Scootin Coffee, in rein to Ricky Macomber Jr., wired the field in the first division, stopping the clock in 1:58. The daughter of I Scoot Hanover is owned and trained by Jacob Graber. Sent off as the favorite, LBS Scootin Coffee is a half-sister to 2005 ISS champion L-N-A’s Dream.
The last of the three divisions was won by favorite Viking Contessa and driver Jay Cross in a time of 1:57. The Mark Johnathan freshman is owned by breeder Howard Peterson. She is trained by Trent Stohler.
