Glidemaster made his first career start a memorable one as the freshman son of Yankee Glide trotted to a national season's best 1:56.2 victory at Mohawk Racetrack Thursday night. With trainer Blair Burgess driving, Glidemaster came from ninth at the half to win by 3 テつス lengths in the fastest mile trotted by a 2 year old in North America on a mile track this year. Only Here Come Herbie's 1:56 effort over the five-eighths mile oval at Pocono Downs July 10 is faster for the division.

A $10,000 yearling purchase by Robert Burgess, Karin Olsson-Burgess and Marsha Cohen, the Brittany Farms-bred Glidemaster had won a baby race at Mohawk in 1:59.4 on June 15, and then finished third in a July 19 qualifier over that same track. Drawing post 10 in Thursday night's $17,000 conditioned trot, Burgess got away in the back of the pack early but then cruised around the competition to easily win at odds of 45-1.
