Graceful Touch sells for $560,000; The Queen for $350,000

Jean-Pierre Barjon, the owner of the 2009 Prix d'Amerique winner Meaulnes du Corta, was the successful bidder at $560,000 for Graceful Touch, the dam of the 2007 Hambletonian winner Muscle Massive, world champion Muscle Mass and 2010 Merrie Annabelle winner Thatsnotmyname, during the Perretti Farms broodmare dispersal on the first of two days of the mixed sale auction at Harrisburg, Pa. Not part of the Perretti dispersal but also sold on Thursday for $350,000 to Adam Bowden's Diamond Creek Farm was The Queen, a full sister to world champion Pampered Princess.
The 11-year-old Graceful Touch, voted the 2010 Trotting Broodmare of the Year by members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association, is now in foal to the 2010 Trotter of the Year and 3-Year-Old Colt Trotter of the Year Lucky Chucky. The price of $560,000 is the sixth highest ever paid for a trotting broodmare.
Barjon, of Vanves, France, a suburb of Paris, is also the president of the Coral Gables, Fla.-based lemonade company Lorina Inc. On Wednesday at Harrisburg he also purchased the American Winner filly Sooner Schooner, a half sister to the 2009 Hambletonian Oaks winner and 2009 Three-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year Broadway Schooner, for $22,000.
Classic Star, the first of the Perretti pacing broodmares to be sold, brought a price of $90,000 from Eric Cherry's Let It Ride Stable. A 6-year-old daughter of Cam's Card Shark, Classic Star is out of the Hall of Fame broodmare Classic Wish, thus a full sister to the $2.5 million-winner Bettor's Delight and 2011 Meadowlands Pace and Battle of the Brandywine winner Roll With Joe, and a half sister to Triple Crown champion No Pan Intended. Classic Star is in foal to Rocknroll Hanover.
Diamond Creek Farm also spent $100,000 and $90,000 to purchase Just Add Water and Monkeys Can Sing, back-to-back respectively, from the Perretti dispersal. A 5-year-old daughter of Western Hanover, Just Add Water is out of the mare Cathedra Dot Com, she out of the Hall of Fame broodmare Cathedra. Cathedra Dot Com is a sister to standouts Cabrini Hanover, Western Shooter, The Preacher Pan and Monkeys Can Sing . Just Add Water is a half sister to the 2011 Metro winner Simply Business.
As for Monkeys Can Sing, the 5-year-old daughter of Western Ideal out of Cathedra is in foal to Bettor's Delight.
Wenditions, whose dam Wendy M Hanover is a full sister to Western Hanover, brought a price of $180,000 from White Birch Farm. A daughter of Rocknroll Hanover, Wenditions, who is a half sister of the multiple-stakes winner Modern Art, is in foal to Art Major.
A $120,000 purchase was Repititions, the dam of this year's William Wellwood Memorial runner-up Money On My Mind and New Jersey Sire Stakes winner Winuendo. Bruce Brinkerhoff, acting as agent, purchased the 9-year-old daughter of Muscles Yankee who is in foal to Credit Winner.
Hunterton Farm's Steve Stewart purchased Captiva Island, a 7-year-old daughter of Western Hanover out of the multiple stakes winning mare Sanabelle Island, for $80,000.
As for The Queen, she herself was a $360,000 yearling purchase. A 3-year-old daughter of Andover Hall out of the $531,258-winning mare Bold Dreamer, The Queen is in foal to Muscle Hill. Her racing career was brief, with just three starts as a 2 year old in 2010 and just one appearance in 2011, that coming in February. She finished second in her pari-mutuel debut as a freshman at The Red Mile for her lone on-the-board effort.
Brinkerhoff, acting as agent, purchased Cream Puff, a half sister to Pizza Dolce and herself the dam of Hambletonian Oaks winner Creamy Mimi, for $120,000. The 15-year-old daughter of Pine Chip is in foal to Muscle Hill.
Crysta's Image, the dam of the 2010 Two-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year Crys Dream as well as Breeders Crown champion Brigham Dream, was sold to Maurio Zuanetti's Atlantic Trot for $110,000. The 14-year-old daughter of Balanced Image is in foal to Taurus Dream., making the foal a full sister to Crys Dream.
Daylon Mistress made it three straight six-digit purchases on Thursday when the 6-year-old daughter of Duke Of York brought a price of $100,000 from Herb Liverman. A half sister to this year's Canadian Trotting Classic champion Daylon Magician, Daylon Mistress is in foal to Kadabra.
