When driver Jack Dailey got Gran Cameo to the front in the featured pace for females on Friday night at Scioto, he backed down the tempo and the six-year-old mare had more than enough left to sprint home ahead of her pursuers.
Gran Cameo won her third race in her last six starts for owner Jerry Grant and trainer Charles Ross. She went off as a slight favorite and paid $6.60 to win.
Dailey sent his mare to the front at the start and passed the first quarter in :28.3 and then shut down the pace with a 32 second second quarter. A third quarter in :28.1 and a final quarter in :28 was enough to discourage any homestretch heroics by the gals eating her dust.
Gran Cameo hit the wire in 1:56.4 a length ahead of Standing Pretty while Astreas Notice edged Yankee Mystique for third place.
Leading driver Chris Page swept the first three races of the evening with horses trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. to increase his lead over Dan Noble in the drivers race to four wins. (Scioto Downs)
