Great Challenger, a Conway Hall half-brother to Hambletonian winner Amigo Hall, captured the first of three Lexington Breeders Classic eliminations for 2-year-old colt trotters at The Red Mile Friday night (Sept. 5).

With David Miller driving, Great Challenger disposed of his seven rivals with a 1:57 effort, his first win in three attempts. Proud Bushy (Mike Zeller) finished 2 1/2 lengths behind in second.

Finishing third was the $250,000 yearling purchase Adams Hall (Don Irvine Jr.). A full brother to standout trotters Angus Hall, Conway Hall and Andover Hall, Adams Hall somehow was overlooked from the outside eight post at 51-1, likely the highest odds that family had ever been sent off with.

Sand Vic stretched his winning streak to five with a 1:58.3 clocking in the second elim. With irvine in the sulky, Sand Vic defeated Windsong's Legacy and David On The Board.

The third elim went to Southwind Elian in 1:59.2. Driven by irvine, Southwind Elian found himself shuffled all the way back to last in the eight-horse field turning for home. Shaking loose and moving four wide, Southwind Elian was able to edge past Victitious in the final strides to gain the decision. Tennis Champ finished third.
