Favored Greenshoe and Brian Sears handily won the second $70,000 elimination for the 94th edition of the Hambletonian Saturday, August 3 at The Meadowlands. The two-time New Jersey Sires Stakes champion, trained by Marcus Melander, tripped the timer in 1:50.2. He was followed across the wire by Don’t Let’em, Forbidden Trade, Marseille and Pilot Discretion, who also advance to the final.

Driving the number one contender from post five, Sears got away third as Ake Svanstedt set the tempo with Marseille after leaving from post eight. The Muscle Hill colt clicked off fractions of :27.3 and :56 before Sears moved from third with Greenshoe. The Father Patrick-Designed To Be colt brushed to the front and needed little urging to reach the wire first, cruising to his fifth win in six seasonal starts. Don’t Let’em and Yannick Gingras trotted strong in the lane for second, closely followed by Forbidden Trade.

Bred by al Libfeld and Marvin Katz, Greenshoe’s performance fell one-fifth short of his best time. He is owned by Courant Inc., Hans Backe, Lars Granqvist and Horten Langli. The colt now sports just over $360,000 in seasonal earnings.
Gerry, Reign Of Honor and Super Schissel failed to advance to the final.
