Lisa America will be getting another chance to compete in the Elitlopp. The Varenne-sired mare pulled off a big upset in the Oslo Grand Prix Sunday at the Bjerke track and earned an invitation to the Elitlopp, scheduled for the last Sunday of the month in Stockholm. America's hope, Enough Talk, was forced three wide in the last turn and tired and finished last.
Lisa America was bred and is owned by Hall of Famer Lou Guida and is trained by American horseman Jerry Riordan, who is based in Italy. With Jorma Kontio driving, Lisa America won in a mile rate time of 1:55 7/10ths. She paid $67 to win. Last year she competed in the Elitlopp but failed to advance to the final heat.
The Swedish fan favorite Maharajah, driven by Orjan Kihlstrom, finished second.
Define The World, trained by Canadian John Bax and driven by Paul MacDonell, finished third with a solid effort. Copper Beach and Beanie MM, who had already been invited to the Elitlopp, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
