Dave Little, an active member of the U.S. Harness Writers Association who works for the New York Daily News, reported on Thursday that a union leader said Jeff Gural didn't extend an early enough invitation to meet with them.

"They didn't have any plans of meeting with him," said Pat Bartolotta, president of Local 137. "What Gural did was tell the newspapers that they were having a meeting (Wednesday) at 1 o'clock and never reached out to anybody, and when he finally did reach them, they said, 'No, they weren't going to go.'"

When Little spoke with Gural about the status of his efforts to lease the Meadowlands, Gural told him he may try to move forward without the union on board. "Absolutely, if that's the only option, then that would be yes," Gural said. "Because I was personally insulted by their decision not to attend (Wednesday's) meeting."
