Hard To Beat lived up to his name, upsetting favored Race Track Ruler with a 1:51.2 mile in the $75,000 Complex Series final at the Meadowlands Saturday night. It was the second series final victory of the night for Brennan who captured the Clyde Hirt final earlier in the evening with Panaramic Art.

Afer an opening quarter in :27.4 by Don’t Fool Me Now, the favored Race Track Ruler and Brian Sears pulled from the pocket and brushed to the lead. But Brennan followed with Hard To Beat from third and had the lead at the :54.4 half. The three quarters was passed in 1:22.4 and the 5-year-old Artiscape gelding was in complete command through the lane. Race Track Ruler rallied late, but was a neck short at the wire. Tiber Hanover and Jim Meittinis were third.

Owned by Robert Cooper Stables LLC, Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Mitchell Rosenthal, and trained by Ross Croghan, Hard To Beat nosed out Don’t Fool Me Now in a first-leg division of the series and was third to Don’t Fool Me Now in last week’s second leg before picking up this victory in his fourth start of the year.
