Hazel Park Harness Raceway has been announced as the new site of the Detroit Shrine Circus, at 103 years old the oldest Shrine circus in the United States. This year's circus will be held March 18-21, with between 25,000 and 40,000 expected to attend.
The circus will be held under a big tent located on a 20-acre parking lot at the racetrack. The circus, which began at the Light Guard Armory in Detroit in 1906, had been held at the state fairgrounds in Detroit since 1926, but budget problems forced the state to close that site last October.
