Tivoli Hanover, who won the Hempt Memorial earlier this year, turned in a strong effort in a qualifier at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Thursday, scoring by 8 3/4 lengths in 1:52, with a :27.1 last panel. It was the first time the horse had lined up behind the starting gate since he underwent surgery for a displaced colon back in mid-June.
Trained by Chris Oakes, Tivoli Hanover finished fifth in the $1 million Art Rooney Pace in early June, then suffered the displaced colon. He underwent surgery at the University of Pennsylvania\'s New Bolton Center. \"The doctors had to cut him under the belly to get at the displaced colon,\" said Oakes after the surgery. \"They did a great job in saving the horse\'s life.\"
After the surgery Oakes indicated he hoped to have Tivoli Hanover ready for the Little Brown Jug.
