Her Culese came up a winner in a three-horse race-off in the 41st Kentucky Filly Futurity after eking out a dramatic nose decision in the second heat to force the showdown. Her Culese edged first-heat elimination winner Coulantine by a nose in that second heat to set the stage for the match-up between those two and elim winner Nana's Best. Flawless Bluestone, who had also won her elim and then finished fourth in the second heat, was scratched by trainer Joe Holloway from the race-off.

Coulantine and driver Charlie Norris set the tempo in the race-off, with Nana's Best sitting second for Mike Lachance and Her Culese third for Ron Pierce. Norris was able to set fractions of :29.3, :58.1 and 1:26.4, but she was unable to fend off the stretch rally of Her Culese. Her Culese rushed past to win by 2 1/2-lengths in 1:55.1 over Coulantine, with Nana's Best third. The total purse for the Filly Futurity was $304,000.

Owned by David McDuffee, Irv Liverman and John Fielding, and trained by Brett Prelling, Her Culese now has eight wins in 17 starts this year, with earnings just shy of a quarter-million dollars. She recently also posted a straight-heat victory in the World Trotting Derby filly division at Du Quoin, Ill.
