Huntsville, Fear The Dragon,Summer Side win PASS

With respective wins in 1:49 and 1:49.1 in Pennsylvania Sires Stakes (PASS) action for 3-year-old male pacers Thursday afternoon at Harrah's Philadelphia, Huntsville and Fear The Dragon earned divisional speed-badge honors in 2017. A third PASS split was won by Summer Side in 1:50.2, which tied as the third fastest mile by a sophomore pacer this year.
Fear The Dragon kicked off the PASS action with his one-length score over Ocean Colony, with Ozone Blue Chip 6 1/2 lengths back in third. David Miller directed the son of Dragon Again to his career-best score in the $49,093 division.
Sent off the 1-9 favorite, Fear The Dragon is now unbeaten in four starts this year, bringing his career earnings past the $300,000 mark. Brian Brown trains the winner for Emerald Highlands Farm
Summer Side scored a career best with his win in the second $49,493 PASS division. Tim Tetrick guided the son of Well Said to the near wire-to-wire victory, besting runner-up Filibuster Hanover by one length, with Machiavelli 3 1/2 lengths back in third.
Sent off the even-money favorite, Summer Side is owned by trainer Ray Schnittker and Howard Taylor.
The trio of PASS events wrapped up with a huge score by Huntsville, who posted a final quarter of :27 for driver Tetrick to widen his margin down the stretch to 7 1/4 lengths over second-place Highalator. Boogie Shuffle was right behind in third.
The win in the $49,593 split was the second of the year for the reigning divisional champion Huntsville in three attempts. Sent off the 1-9 favorite, Schnittker trains the son of Somebeachsomewhere and co-owns with Ted Gewertz, Charles Iannazzo and Steve Arnold. Huntsville brought his career earnings to $745,843 with the victory.
