The 22-race winning streak of See You At Peelers came to an end at The Meadows Monday afternoon when the filly finished sixth in the $193,150 Nadia Lobell after a super tough trip starting from post nine. Instead of See You At Peelers winning her 23rd straight, Idyllic pulled off the surprising upset, hitting the wire first in 1:50, a new track mark.
Driver Marcus Johansson fired See You At Peelers off the gate from post nine but inside, Brian Sears (driving Myluvmylife) and Yannick Gingras (driving Foxy Lady) didn't make it easy for the 2-5 favorites. That kept See You At Peelers three wide throughout the first turn. She finally was able to clear to the pylons when the quarter-mile timer flashed :26.1, which meant she paced her first panel is :25 and change.
Going by the grandstand See You At Peelers kept up her quick pace, reaching the halfway mark in :53.1--a :27 second quarter. David Miller pulled Idyllic first-over at the half and Swinging Beauty, driven by Doug McNair, followed.
Down the backstretch Idyllic hung tough and continued to threaten, and somewhere in the last turn Johansson pulled the earplugs and See You At Peelers paced over to the three-quarter station in 1:21.1.
But as soon as "Peelers" hit the straightaway, it was obvious she was tired. Idyllic passed her, then Myluvmylife, then Swinging Beauty, then others. Click here to watch the video replay.
Miller, who had raced Idyllic against See You At Peelers at Harrah's Chester one week earlier in the Valley Forge, said he was surprised his filly turned in her big effort. "Last week I got away third and made that same move, but my mare was much better today," he offered.
As for his chances at beating See You At Peelers, Miller said "I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but I was sure it wasn't going to be an easy for for her."
