Impressive freshman wins

Westerm Ace and Pujols each paced to impressive victories in their respective Woodrow Wilson eliminations for freshman colt and gelding pacers Friday night at the Meadowlands. Western Ace held off his rivals down the stretch to post a 1:53 victory while Pujols drew clear from his competition to score in 1:53.3.



With driver Ron Pierce, Western Ace had the lead turning into the stretch and then had to battle it out with a game Bartolomeo N (Yannick Gingras) on the outside while Mr. Thirty Two (Cat Manzi) tried valiantly up the inside. Western Ace was able to fight off his foes to win by a neck over Bartolomeo N with Mr. Thirty Two third..



Livestrong finished fourth while Actionuke took fifth to earn a spot in next Friday night's Wilson final.



A son of Western Ideal, Western Ace is trained by George Teague Jr. Teague and his sister, Brenda, along with Kovach Stables are the owners



Pujols, named for St. Louis Cardinal star Albert Pujols, proved he is for real as he kept a clear margin between himself and runner-up Renoir (Gingras) under the wire. Gimmebackmybullets (Mike Lachance) was third with Master The Art and XLR Ray Shun King rounded out tjhe top five finishers.



Recently purchased by New Yorker Michael Pulansky from Illinois-based interests, Pujols won for the fourth time in five career starts. Tom Harmer trains the son of Cole Muffler.
