Michigan's Acting Racing Commissioner Christine C. White today approved MTR Gaming Group Inc.'s purchase of a 90 percent interest in the Jackson Trotting Association, which operates Jackson Harness Raceway in Jackson, Mich.

Commissioner White said, "After careful review of the purchase agreement between MTR Gaming and the Jackson Trotting Association, the Office of Racing Commissioner (ORC) has determined that the transaction meets the requirements of the Horse Racing Law. Furthermore, MTR Gaming was found to posses sufficient financial resources and a business plan to operate the race meeting in a lawful and competent manner."

MTR Gaming Group currently owns Scioto Downs in Ohio and Mountaineer Park in West Virginia. In addition, the company holds a 50 percent interest in a new harness track to be built near Minneapolis, Minn., and has plans to build Presque Isle Downs, a Thoroughbred track slated for Erie, Pa.

Jackson Harness Raceway offers year-round simulcasting and is scheduled to start its live harness racing meet on April 20. They will race on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays through June 11.
