Jim Morrill Sr. dies

Jim Morrill Sr. died at his home in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. after a lengthy illness. He was 69.

Morrill was an outstanding horseman and is the father of Jim Morrill Jr. and owner and breeder Jamie Su Bauslaugh.

Born in March, 1935 in Hanover, N. H., Mr. Morrill was a star prep athlete and voted All-State in both football and hockey, and often participated in scrimmages against squads from Dartmouth College.

A second-generation horseman, Mr. Morrill learned the business from his father, Charlie. He won many driving titles at Saratoga Raceway and also starred at the Meadowlands in the late 1970s and the early 1980s.

He won the New Faces Series final in 1979 with Farbro Wave, and also campaigned such standouts as JM Glow and Gay Baroness. In lieu of services there will be a memorial race conducted at Saratoga Raceway, the time and date for which will be announced.

Mr. Morrill is also survived by another daughter, Kelly.
