Joe Sacco dies in Michigan

Joseph O. Sacco, 82, a longtime Standardbred owner and one of the original owners of Sports Creek Raceway in Swartz Creek, Mich., died Thursday, Feb. 23.
Mr. Sacco was born in Chicago, Ill., on June 2, 1928. He was a resident of Las Vegas, Nev., for 13 years, and was formerly of West Bloomfield for 20 years. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and loved to play golf.
Mr. Sacco is survived by his wife, Catherine; children, Joanne (Martin) Gawronski, Michael (Michelle), Susie Bokshan and Rosemarie Irwin; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathy Knack.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 26, from 2-8 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, Mich.
