The Jug barn at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds was a flurry of activity Thursday morning as trainers and caretakers began their initial preparations for their colts entered in the Little Brown Jug. Trainer George Teague Jr., who sends out Southwind Lynx, chatted with everyone who stopped by, while Joe Holloway, who has Always A Virgin and Fresh Deck entered in the Jug, did the same on the other side of the barn.
Although Southwind Lynx, Always A Virgin and Fresh Deck were in their stalls, Karin Olsson-Burgess, who watches over Tell All for her husband, trainer Blair Burgess, was walking her colt on the grass just outside the barn area. A couple of people yelled over good wishes to her, and she turned her colt who then stood patiently as cameras flashed.
The first Jug elimination is scheduled to go postward at 3:50, with the second elimination the next race. Then second heat is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. The temperature is expected to be in the low 80s by post time for the Jug eliminations.
