Driver Matt Kakaley and trainer Ron Burke joined forces to win a pair of Stallion Series races at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Tuesday night. There were five divisions held for 3-year-old colts and geldings on the pace, each of which carried a purse of $20,000.
Kakaley, Pocono’s leading driver in 2011, and Burke, the nation’s leading trainer, won with Scenic Art in 1:51:4 in the third division. The pair quickly followed that up when Rampage Jackson won easily in the fourth split in 1:52.
The Pepperoni Kid, driven by Tim Tetrick for trainer Jan Fread, scored the night’s fastest Stallion Series time with his win in the second split in 1:50:4. The other two division winners were Mc Rusty, driven by George Napolitano Jr. for trainer Steve Elliott, in 1:51:2, and Sapphire City, with Andy Miller in the bike for trainer Todd Schadel, in 1:51:4.
