World Champion Kennans Max qualified at Balmoral Park Wednesday morning n(April 28), winning in 2:00.3 by seven lengths.

"He went real good," said trainer Joel Smith. "He come his last quarter in :28.4, which was huge today. We've got about a 40 mile per hour wind blowing up here today. HE was the fastest last quarter of anybody qualifying. He did real well."

Kennans Max, a 3-year-old gelded son of Vaporize set a world record of 1:55.3 last august in the final of the Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes at Springfield. He will qualify again next week before making his stakes debut in the Mr. Magoo at Balmoral. His schedule this year could have him racing in the Stanley Dancer, World Trotting Derby, Bluegrass and Breeders Crown. He is not eligible for the Breeders Crown.

In another qualifier at Balmoral Wednesday, Ohubetterbelievit, a 3-year-old Western Hanover colt--the first foal-from Oyouprettything p, 3,1:50.4 ($1,279,368), scored in a dead heat for first with Carcano in 2:01.3. The two were 14 1/2 lengths ahead of the rest of the field.

Ohubetterbelievit didn't race as a 2 year old. "He hurt his leg while training and we just gave him time, and we're just now starting to get back to the races," said the colt's trainer Joe Anderson. "He trained down extremely well, but I haven't put a lot of pressure on him to see exactly what he can be. He went an OK qualifier, but it was extremely windy up here."

Also winning a qualifier was Nu-Dimaond Star in 1:57. It was her second qualifying victory of the season.
