Kentucky stakes elims

Newtown and driver Markus Johansson took on pacesetter CR V Eight (Jeff Fout) through the final turn and drew away in the stretch to win the first elimination of the Kentucky Sire Stakes for 3-year-old colt trotters at The Red Mile on Saturday night (Sept. 6).



The 1:57.3 victory was just the second of the year for the son of Conway Hall. Just three starts back he was competing in a $20,000 claimer.



Mr. Eero (Conway Hall) was on the lead twice before settling for cover on the rail in his elim, but came charging down the stretch for the 1:55.4 win. Manforallseasons was second.



Galaxy Chip OM (Pine Chip) used a similar quick last quarter to come from off the pace to win his elim in 1:57.4 with trainer Jan Johnson up. Conway Hall colt San Siro cut the mile to win 1:58.4. Valiant Chip and Justice For Hall were second in those races, respectively, and earned a guaranteed spot in the final.



In Lexington Breeders Classic action for 2-year-old colt pacers, Rapid Dialing climbed to the top of his elim along the backstretch to a drew away to win in 1:53.3. Circle L Kid came three wide in the last turn to win his in 1:54.3.
