Ken Warkentin overcame post 10 and a 3-week layoff to win a 3-year-old Open at the Meadowlands Friday night in a career-best 1:52.3, the second fastest trotting mile of the season by a member of his division and an effort that solidifies his status as a Hambletonian favorite.

Scratched out of last week's Stanley Dancer elims by trainer Jimmy Takter when the track came up "sloppy," Ken Warkentin took to the overnight route to continue his preparations for the upcoming Hambletonian. With David Miller driving, Ken Warkentin trotted 1 1/5 seconds faster than Classic Photo did in capturing the Dancer final five races earlier on the card.

Finishing second and third in the official order of finish behind Ken Warkentin was fellow Hambo-eligibles Southfork and Gettindownanddirty, respectively. Although payoffs were made on that order, the judges later placed Southfork last for the violation.
