Lexington Selected Sale finishes down 11.4%

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale concluded late Sunday afternoon, with the average price for the five sessions finally settling at $31,107, a drop of 11.4 percent from last year's average of $35,003. The median price--the dollar figure at which half the horses sell for more and half for less--was $20,000, a 20 percent decline from last year's number of $25,000.
The total gross for the 791 horses sold--one fewer than in 2009--was $24,535,000 versus $27,722,000 last year, a drop of $3,187,000, or 11.5 percent.
Thirteen fewer horses were sold in the final session on Sunday than in last year's closing session, but this year's gross was $651,000 less, resulting in an average price of $10,164, a drop of 18.4 percent from session five in 2009.
