With regular pilot Randy Waples in the bike Keystone Horatio circled his rivals to win the $42,000 Open Pace in a lifetime best of 1:48.4 on Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

The Ontario Sire Stakes graduate used a :26.4 final quarter to defeat millionaire Bigtime Ball and Major Hottie, who set a 1:48.3. world-record performance a week ago, in the final strides.

“He’s just a special horse to drive. I’ve never chosen another horse over him. He’s a special horse to me because he’s the horse that kick-started my career after my broken arms,” Waples told Greg Gangle of the WEG Media Department.

The five-year-old son of Rustler Hanover-Keystone Havoc is trained by John Kopas for the Estate of George F Hempt Trust of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. (WEG)
