A pair of 2010 Hambletonian contenders were in action Friday morning at the Meadowlands as Lucky Chucky, the reigning divisional champion among 3-year-old colt trotters, and Peter Haughton Memorial winner Holiday Road won their respective qualifiers.
Lucky Chucky made his first appearance of 2010 in the Friday qualifier, with John Campbell in the sulky for trainer Chuck Sylvester. The son of Windsong's Legacy, who counted among his freshman victories the Valley Victory and Matron, took the lead at the :58.3 half and then closed out his mile with a final quarter of :28 to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:55.4.
Holiday Road captured his second qualifier of the year as Brian Sears directed the Greg Peck-trained son of Yankee Glide to a wire-to-wire 1:55.1 victory, drawing clear to win by seven lengths with a final quarter of :28 flat.
